Open mouth breathing can pose lots of health risks as we age and creates a narrow airway. A narrow airway as an adult looks like snoring, crowded teeth, sleep apnea, metabolic dysfunction, increased cavities... The list goes on. This exercise can help promote closed mouth breathing and proper tongue positioning in your baby to set them up for LIFE! 🩷

Other ways you promote optimal airway development for your family:
🩷Breastfeeding with a deep latch
🩷Seeing an airway focused dentist
🩷Getting a myofunctional therapy evaluation
🩷Avoiding foods that take no effort to chew (anything in a squeezy pouch)

The earlier you can intervene to promote robust airway development, the better!

Oral ties can limit the function of baby’s mouth. This can affect mom’s comfort while breastfeeding, baby’s ability to transfer milk, mom’s milk supply, and how baby’s FACE AND AIRWAY grow.

If you suspect a tie - get it checked!!! Not every professional is qualified in looking at oral ties, and it’s really common for mothers to be told their baby doesn’t have oral ties in the delivery room when they totally do. If you’re struggling - ASK FOR HELP!!

Folic acid is not folate. Folate is basically the processed form of Folate. Folic acid is in things like enriched flour, whereas folate is naturally occurring in foods like leafy greens.

Converting folic acid in to a usable form requires two slow, slow steps in the liver before it looks like the folate you’ll find in nature.

After that, another 2 steps are required to convert folate into its ready to use form (5-methyltetrahydrofolate). The speed of those two steps are determined by a gene called MTHFR. This isn’t the only important gene in the methylation process, but it’s a big one.

Methylation testing and taking the right folate supplement can be a game changer not only for your preconception health, but also for your mental health and overall wellbeing.
